In May of 2014 Tony Friesen, Natasha Frost and Spencer Vanderhoof came together to open Friesen’s Family Bakery. Opening with 3 principles, producing everything onsite, shopping locally whenever possible and supporting our community. These focuses have allowed Friesen’s to establish themselves as Mankato’s home great food at a fair price.
After opening with only 4 crew members, Friesen’s has grown to a staff of over 15, being extremely excited to produce more local jobs. September 2014 was our first expansion, adding a pantry, doubling our seating and expanding our menu to include sandwiches, as well as catering.
Excitement is growing for our May 1st expansion into the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota. We are very honored to be the food provider for the Museum Cafe as well as the Museum’s breakfast and lunch caterer. We see this as a great way to help educate our youth about the importance of eating locally sourced foods.
In October of 2014 Friesen’s was honored to be awarded the Entrepreneurial Business of the year by Greater Mankato Growth, an award given to a new business that has a focus on the community. We have been fortunate to begin programs working with students in Junior Achievement at Mankato East High School and Minnesota State University students in the IT and Entrepreneurial Business Departments. Following in March of 2015, Minnesota State’s Reporter awarded Friesen’s with Best New Business in 2014, an award given based on their readers votes.
Birthday parties at Friesen’s have been a blast. Allowing your kids to work hands on to make bread, cupcakes and cookies, each will leave with a bag of treats that will be the talk of the night when they get home. Contact us to reserve your date early.
